Former MacVicar lab post-doctoral student Dr. Ravi Rungta (pictured right, with Dr. Eric Marcotte) is one of 15 recipients of a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) 2015 Brain Star Award.
As one of the top three, he was funded to attend the Canadian Association for Neuroscience Meeting in Toronto in May, where he presented his research which focuses on understanding the process by which neurons die after trauma from stroke, brain injury, hypoxia and infections
As the highest-ranked recipient of the 15 Brain Star awardees, Dr. Rungta also received the 2015 Marlene Reimer Brain Star of the Year Award. Marlene Reimer was an inaugural member of the CIHR Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction advisory board, and the first chair of its focus group on training and education.
Dr. Rungta presented his Brain Star talk (The cellular mechanisms of neuronal swelling underlying cytotoxic edema) on May 31 at the 10th Annual Canadian Neuroscience Meeting in Toronto.
