Search for new DMCBH Director begins

The Faculty of Medicine, UBC and the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute invite applications for the position of Director, Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health. This appointment is for an initial term of (5) years with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review and is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the University, at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure.     • Dr. Peng Zhang (PI: Dr. Ann Marie Craig) was awarded the 2019 Necia Laura May Elvin Memorial Prize in Schizophrenia Research.
    • Dr. John-Jose Nunez (PI: Dr. Raymond Lam) received the Tsung-Yi Li Award for Clinical Research.
    • Dr. Yun Zhang (PI: Dr. Weihong Song) received a Department of Psychiatry Research Day Award for best Lightning Talk.

  • MSFHR Trainee Awards
    MSFHR Trainee Awards support health researchers in the training phase of their research career to enable career development and the long-term success of the BC health research landscape.

    • Dr. Amirah Aly (PI: Dr. Michael Hayden) received a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) trainee award for her project, Development Of A Novel Intranasal Oligonucleotide Delivery Approach For Huntington Disease.
    • Dr. Hui Mei Chow (PI: Dr. Miriam Spering) was awarded an MSFHR trainee award for her project, Studying Motion Processing With Eye Movements In Healthy Older Adults And Patients With Ophthalmic Diseases.
    • Dr. Susannah Gagnon (PI: Dr. Filip Van Petegem) received an MSFHR trainee award for her project, Uncovering How Specific “STAC” Proteins Regulate Muscle Contraction.

  • VCHRI Trainee Awards
    • Ryan Falck (PI: Dr. Teresa Liu-Ambrose) received a Top Graduating Doctoral Student Award from Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute in the area of cognitive health.
    • Dr. Matthias Walter (PI: Dr. Andrei Krassioukov) received a Rising Star Award from Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute in the area of spinal cord injury.
