Dr. Shannon Kolind has received an MS Society of Canada grant for a study in MS progression called Establishing an imaging biomarker for disease progression in multiple sclerosis. Using a quantitative MRI technique in the brain and spinal cord pioneered at UBC (myelin water imaging), she will look at myelin as a potential biomarker for disease progression in MS. With new potential therapies for progressive MS on the horizon, this project could allow for more efficient clinical trials to establish effective treatment options for the disease.
