Today, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of National Revenue, on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, announced support for over 6,900 researchers and research projects across Canada. Over $502.3 million in funding has been awarded to researchers, students and institutions, which underscores the government’s efforts to support Canada’s research community.

John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF)

The Government of Canada announced nearly $86 million through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to support 316 research infrastructure projects at 47 institutions across the country. This contribution, made through the CFI’s John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF), will help institutions in Canada attract and retain the very best of today’s researchers. A total of 34 projects led by UBC researchers were awarded a collective $7.0 million in funding.

SSHRC Insight Grants and Insight Development Grants

The Government of Canada announced that $123.1 million in federal research funding has been awarded through 503 Insight Grants and 590 Insight Development Grants to researchers working in social sciences and humanities disciplines at institutions across Canada. The SSHRC Insight Grants and Insight Development Grants enable scholars to further our collective understanding of individuals and societies, as well as to inform the search for solutions to societal challenges. 83 projects led by UBC researchers have been awarded $11.5 million in funding through these grants.
