Dr. Sharon Hou (she/her) is an assistant professor in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University and a psychologist and investigator at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. Dr. Hou’s research program is focused on advancing understandings of the social and cultural determinants of child health. Dr. Hou has a particular interest in the co-creation, implementation, and evaluation of culturally responsive interventions to address the distinct needs of underrepresented and underserved populations, including children and youth with brain-based developmental disabilities; children with severe neurological impairments; and children with serious mental health and health conditions, such as eating disorders and cancer. Dr. Hou’s work is grounded in theoretical paradigms of anti-racism, critical intersectional feminism, and decolonization, and guided by patient-oriented community-engaged research methods.
