Primary interest is the study of pain. Specifically, goal is to understand the neurobiology of pain. My lab incorporates various neurophysiological and anatomical methods to investigate the normal “acute” response to pain, as well as that which occurs in individuals with chronic pain. Given the role of the brain in perceiving the sensation of pain, neuroimaging techniques (e.g., EEG and fMRI) play pivotal roles in my research. Long-term goal is to develop a platform to test novel analgesic interventions, in order to facilitate mechanism based treatment decisions.
