Treating people living with Huntington’s Disease

The Centre for Huntington’s Disease (CHD) provides comprehensive care and support for individuals affected by Huntington’s disease (HD). The CHD also offers education and information about the disease and referrals to community services for patients and families affected by HD.

The expertise of the CHD research team spans the bench-to-bedside continuum, providing opportunities for family participation in cutting-edge clinical research trials. The CHD is also a teaching resource for many disciplines in the medical and foundational sciences, as well as the university and general public.

FAQs

Below are the answers to some frequently asked questions about the Centre for Huntington Disease.

In order to become a patient at the clinic, you must have a referral from a family doctor to see a neurologist,  psychiatrist and/or genetic counsellor.

You can find the referral here.

Please have your family physician fax the referral to: 604-822-7970.

Patients are seen on Tuesdays only. Once your doctor has faxed in your referral, you can make an appointment by contacting Sandy Hazan at 604-822-7366.

Phones are answered Monday to Thursday: 7 am -4 pm

Appointments are made with a neurologist (approximately 1 hour), a psychiatrist (approximately 1 hour), and a social worker (30 minutes + for assessment of needs with follow-up as required). Should patients or family members make a request, appointments to speak with the clinical research manager and/or coordinator and genetic counsellor can be accommodated with advance notice.
